What this site is for

It answers the patient's side of the operation rather than describing the operation. How fat is harvested, processed and placed, and what the biology of take involves, belong to the wider material this hospital publishes. What is missing for a patient is the part worked through alone: whether a transfer can deliver the change wanted, what the donor area will cost in the first fortnight, what happens if less fat holds than hoped, and what can be done afterwards if the answer is less volume rather than more.

The two things stated on every relevant page

That the amount of transferred fat which survives cannot be predicted in advance, and that the harvest creates a second surgical area with its own bruising, garment and permanent scar. A third follows from them and appears wherever it is relevant: fat is not reversible the way other volume is, because nothing dissolves your own fat and it cannot be removed selectively. These are not caveats appended at the end. They are the reasons patients choose a different answer, and they belong at the start of the decision.

What it will not do

It will not name brands of drugs, devices or products: everything is described by class. It will not quote prices, because cost depends on the donor area, the number of areas treated, the anaesthetic and the facility, and the honest number follows an assessment. It will not publish dosages, will not describe the operation step by step, and will not invent credentials, case volumes or awards for any clinician. No volume, survival, symmetry or duration is promised, and the guides are written so that a reasonable reader can decide against the operation after reading them.

Medical review

The content is reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery at Chongqing West District Hospital, and is dated on every page. It is patient education, not medical advice: it does not describe your case, and it does not replace an assessment by a qualified clinician who has examined both the area you want treated and the area the fat would come from.
